THE PHONE CALL
This comic also appears in The Hic & Hoc Illustrated Journal of Humor, which is now available right over here.
ALSO my first book, CRYING IN FRONT OF YOUR DOG AND OTHER STORIES is now available from Grimalkin Press.
“It’s as if McAndrew is telling me intensely human stories, but he tells them by blowing hot air through enormous wax-lips made of the skin of Antonin Artaud, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Groucho Marx (if you can make wax out of skin), and is accompanied by the music of Spike Jones and Frank Zappa.”

Here’s a little video from the 90’s Nickelodeon show I was in recently at the iam8bit gallery in LA. I was there, somewhere. My painting is the last thing they show in the video, right around 4:16.

I’ll be in Toronto, one of my absolute favorite cities, this weekend for the Toronto Comic Arts Festival. I’ll have both of my brand new books with me - CRYING IN FRONT OF YOUR DOG AND OTHER STORIES and my BENIGN KINGDOM art book. I’ll mostly be hanging out at the Grimaklin Press booth (table 103) but will also be signing at the Benign Kingdom booth from time to time (tables 218 - 221).
I’m also doing a couple of drawing events at TCAF! Here’s the info from the festival’s website:
Making Faces - For kids on Saturday from 10:30 - 11:15am in the Novella Room in the Toronto Reference Library.
Join children’s illustrator David Huyck (That One Spooky Night) and Mad Magazine cartoonist Phil McAndrew on how to make a face that sticks. Learn how to show emotions through facial expressions and body posture — make your characters pop off the page! What do the eyebrows say? And why the heck are the eyebrows talking in the first place?
Live Drawing… 2! - on Sunday from 4:00 – 5:00pm at The Pilot Tavern (2nd floor).
Four creators enter, one creator leaves! Come watch four artists draw for their lives – and for your entertainment. Winners will feast on the souls of the losers (vegetarian option available). Featuring Phil McAndrew, Lucy Knisley, Jim Rugg, and Scott C.!
I hope to see you in Toronto!

Hello friends, I’ve uploaded a new little comic for you to look at right over here. This is just one of many comics that will be in my book, CRYING IN FRONT OF YOUR DOG AND OTHER STORIES, which was sent to the printer last week.
Thanks, I love you.

“Phil McAndrew has created a world of his own making that exists in this little square volume, a comfortingly solid shape with glimpses into scenes that shift between the very familiar to a shadowy, dreamlike other side, with stories that move quickly, drawn in a minimum of panels, made sense of by the elegant humor he puts into each one. I loved it.”

It’s a little rough around the edges (literally), but I made a pattern for the endpapers in my book.

I’ll be one of many *special guests* at Emerald City Comicon in Seattle, WA next weekend, March 1 - 3. Come find me with the rest of the Benign Kingdom crew at tables F12 - F16, where we’ll be debuting the spring 2013 art books (one of which is mine!). I’ll also have some original art with me and hopefully some Adventure Time and Bravest Warriors comics with my variant covers.
